The Sky is Falling! (#0000) Part 1

I’m naming this blog entry as The Sky is Falling! (0000) because I anticipate many more to come in the series. Think I should use 5 zeros? – Naw, I probably won’t live that long.

I would like to thank Scott Allen for his Ode To Code Blog and specifically his article Screen Scraping, ViewState, and Authentication using ASP.Net; I spent about half a day trying to figure out how to access Jenzabar’s Internet Campus Solution (ICS) via screen scraping technique as part of a custom series of tests for error reporting. Apparently returning the ViewState was the key to the problem.

Jenzabar’s Internet Campus Solution, in our case MyParker was down for a time this last weekend. The problem was found to be an unresponsive domain controller (DC) for login authentication. That was later isolated as being the result of Symantec Endpoint Protection’s (SEP) Network Protection being inadvertently installed on the system by System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM) when it detected that the system was operating without virus protection. This results in two things: first, we have a department meeting seeking ways to periodically test and report errors on our MyParker servers and the associated components: Servers, Internet Information Services (IIS), DC, Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (ADLDS) including replication, SQL2008, F5 load balancer, and file server services including DFS if we can figure a way to validation it’s operation. Second we need to get a new SCCM SEP Package in place that does not include Network Protection.
